FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost - a very special feast day in our Church! We remember that God sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples, just as Jesus promised. They were filled with courage and wisdom, empowering them to go out and share the Good News of Jesus with the world. As we prepare for Pentecost, let us pray for the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts too, helping us to be more loving, kind, and brave in sharing God's message in our own lives.
Come Holy Spirit,
Fill the hearts of your faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Thanks to all the parents who were able to join us for the inaugural K-2 Athletics Carnival here at school on Monday. The rain held off and the children had a wonderful time. Enjoy the gallery further down in the newsletter.

Congratulations to Willow Zucker who was the recipient of today’s Walk Worthy of God Good Sport Award. Willow's teachers say that she always joins in with a sense of joy, kindness and fairness.

Warm regards,
Margaret

WHAT'S THE BUZZ?

K-2 Athletics Carnival
What a fantastic day we had at our K-2 Athletics Carnival on Monday! The sun was shining brightly, providing a much-welcomed break from the recent rain, and setting the perfect scene for a day of energetic fun. Our youngest athletes participated enthusiastically in a variety of events, including the 50m sprints, tug-of-war, egg and spoon races, sack races, and turbo javelin, just to name a few. A huge congratulations goes out to our incredible staff team who triumphed in the newly created parents vs staff vs students egg and spoon race. Special thanks goes to Mrs. Bennett for her exceptional organisation, making the day such a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Coffs Harbour Dance Eisteddfod
What an incredible display of passion and talent from our students at the Coffs Harbour Dance Eisteddfod today! Our dancers truly represented our school with dedication and flair. A huge congratulations to our Stage 1 dance troupe who performed beautifully and secured a fantastic second place! A special shout-out to our Stage 2 dancers who attained an impressive third place among eleven strong competitors—what a fantastic achievement! While the results for our Stage 3 group aren't in just yet, their performances were absolutely captivating, and we couldn't be prouder of their hard work and commitment. A very special thank you to Mrs Thompson and Ms Sevenoaks for their outstanding choreography, tireless guidance, and for nurturing our future stars.

LOVING LEARNING

World Environment Day
On Thursday, our school came together to celebrate World Environment Day with a special tree-planting initiative. Students from each year level took part in the ceremony, getting their hands dirty to plant a new tree on the school grounds. This hands-on activity was a wonderful way to mark the occasion, helping our students connect with nature and understand the vital role trees play in creating a healthier environment for us all.

What's been happening in Year 6?
Year 6 have been learning about the Cartesian Plane and how it is used in real-world applications such as military, navigation, and mapping. Students have explored the four quadrants of the plane, plotting points and identifying coordinates using the x-axis and y-axis. They have also worked with geometric shapes—such as pentagons—investigating how their coordinates change through transformations including reflection, translation, and rotation. Through graphing activities and written explanations, students have demonstrated an understanding of how these movements affect position and orientation, especially across different quadrants.

FROM THE MISSION DESK

This weekend, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday. One of the most significant feasts in the Church calendar. Pentecost marks the completion of the Easter season and is often referred to as the 'birthday of the Church'.
Fifty days after Easter, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and Mary as they gathered in the Upper Room. This powerful moment filled them with courage and the ability to speak in different languages, enabling them to proclaim the Good News to people of all nations.
Pentecost reminds us of the Church’s mission: to go out into the world and share the love and message of Christ. Pentecost offers a beautiful opportunity to pause and talk with our children about the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, guiding, comforting, and inspiring us. This week, take a moment to pray together as a family, asking the Holy Spirit to fill your families hearts with peace, courage, and joy.

Sacrament of Confirmation - Information Night
Parents and carers are invited to attend our upcoming Parent Information Night next Tuesday 10th June at the school. To be eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, children must be baptised and some students may have already received the Sacrament of Penence (Reconciliation).
Date: Tuesday, 10th June
Time: 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Location: Year 3 Classrooms (childminding provided)
This important information night will equip you with all you need to know about your child’s preparation for this special sacrament. We look forward to seeing you there.
What’s Been Happening in Religious Education in Year 5?
This term in Religious Education, Year 5 students have been exploring the incredible experiences of the disciples after Jesus' Resurrection. We've delved into their initial confusion, their dawning understanding, and their ultimate joy as they encountered the risen Christ.
We've reflected on how His sacrifice on the cross offers us forgiveness and new life, and how His triumph over death through the Resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith, offering hope, victory, and the promise of eternal life. It's been inspiring to see our students grasp the transformative power of these foundational events in our faith.

SPORT NEWS

Finally!
Good news! After much consultation with the council major events team, we have managed to find an available time in the C.Ex Stadium calendar in order to run our 2-6 Athletics carnival. The stadium calendar is jam packed and we have been allocated a half day on Thursday June 26th, which is the only available slot before the deadline of the Zone Carnival on July 2nd.
Due to the limited time slot, the format of the carnival has been adjusted and will be track events only, with our field event progression coming from our school trial results.
Whilst we are disappointed that we are unable to host our carnival in its usual, full & fabulous format, we are excited to be able to get on the track and showcase our amazing athletes.
Look out for more information via the event on Compass.

LIBRARY WHISPERS

We had so much fun in the library this week with our two visiting authors - R.A Spratt and Felice Arena. On Tuesday we had R.A Spratt, the author of Friday Barnes, The Peski Kids, Nanny Piggins and many more, visit with Years 4, 5 and 6. The children loved her stories of how the books came about and her funny impersonations of some of the characters from her books. She did readings from a couple of her new books, Epically Good Greek Myths and Hamlet Is Not Ok. We also got to hear a song she wrote and played on the Ukelele…which the kids loved.

On Thursday we had Felice Arena who has been writing children’s books for 25 years. He writes about a whole range of different subjects, often around historical events. He’s also really well known for his Specky Magee series which is about a 12 year old boy who is mad about Aussie Rules. Felice visited Years 2 and 3 and had them roaring with laughter when he got some of them up to do a dance based on the morse code! He also read them one of his Picture Books, Pasta which we all loved. He also visited Years 5 and 6 and entertained them with stories about the truth behind some of his historical fiction. He did a reading from his book The Boy and the Spy which was set in Italy during the Second World War. He finished his reading at a cliff hanger, so I know I’m going to be inundated with kids wanting to borrow it to find out what happens!
