FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy Fathers’ day to all of our fathers and father figures this Sunday. It was great to have so many of you at our annual Footy Colours Breakfast. I believe the owner of the longest kick was Ben Andrews. Congrats Ben!
This beautiful little father and child song from Timothy Hart was shared at our Fathers’ day liturgy this morning. Enjoy!
A special partnership between Sawtell Catholic Care and our school kicked off on Wednesday with the commencement of Young at Art, an intergenerational interactive visual arts program. A small group of our students are participating in this pilot and we are excited about the future possibilities offered by this collaboration.

The Good Sport award this week was presented to Max McKeon in Year 6. Mr Warnes shared with the school that Max supports everyone, he is honest and a good person to be around. Congratulations Max!

We say a warm welcome to the Fitzgerald family who joined the school community this week.
Warm regards,
Liz

LOVING LEARNING

Tournament of Minds
Congratulations to our Tournament of Minds team who represented our school at the regional finals in Port Macquarie on Sunday. Our students competed in a language literature challenge and a spontaneous challenge. The performed exceptionally well on the day and scored in the ‘excellent’ and ‘very good’ areas for most components. A huge ‘thank you’ to the parents who drove the children down to the event and to Mrs Morgan who, despite being on maternity leave, accompanied us for the day. Well done to all the students and we look forward to continued success next year.

Mass with Year 1

On Tuesday, our wonderful Year 1 students celebrated Mass with Fr Collin. The Gospel reading, Luke 4:31-37 reminded us that Jesus loves us all very much and that we are called to spread God's love. The children were asked by Father Collin “What is love?”. Below are some responses from the children.
Love is found deep in your heart.
Love is hugging
Love is being kind, helpful and caring.
Love is one of the best things in life.
Love is in all of us.
Religious Education in Year 2
This week Year Two students have brought the Parable of The Good Samaritan to life by taking part in Godly Play. Students set the desert scene, moved each character to demonstrate their role, then reflected, in their prayer journals, on who the good neighbour was and how they can be a good neighbour to others in their everyday lives.
Here are some of their responses:
I think being a good neighbour means helping other people when they feel sick. Mieke
It means helping anyone who is sad, even when you don’t know them.
Isabella
I think being a good neighbour means sharing with others.
Max
It means picking up rubbish and taking care of our environment for everyone. Jack
I think being a good neighbour means being kind, not rude.
Avreet
It means asking people if they’re okay and helping them.
Angaddeep
I think being a good neighbour means taking care of someone when they are hurt.
Ned
Next week, students will incorporate the use of technology to animate the characters, recording their retelling of the parable as they go.

Fathers' Day Breakfast and Liturgy
Today we celebrated Father’s Day with a BBQ breakfast and special Liturgy. We thanked God for all of the special men in our lives and everything that they do for us.

This week, students spent time thinking about their dads, grandads, stepfathers and the caring people in our lives. Here are some reasons these father figures are so very special.
My dad is special because he tells funny jokes and he waters my flowers.
Lucy Laurie
My Dad is special because he can boot the rugby ball to space! He can pick up 350 pounds and I hope that one day I am just like him. I love you Dad.
Sullivan Watson
My Dad loves me because he takes me to soccer. I liked when we do art and craft together and when he plays games with me. I like when he takes me camping and to the pool. I also like it when he takes me to my friend's house. I love my dad!
Byron Currie
Dad has done everything for our family and I mean it. He is very important, very funny and he tells way too many dad jokes. I love my dad to the earth and back! He doesn’t know how much I need him. My dad’s the BOMB!
Ivy Martin
I love my dad because he makes my breakfast every morning and always makes me smile. He tries his hardest to make each day perfect and he never gives up.
Keeley Adamson
My dad is special because he encourages me to do things I am not always comfortable with.

SENSEI'S CORNER

Kindergarten to Year 2 have been learning about colours through play, using a traditional Japanese wooden toy called the Daruma otoshi. The challenge is to tap out the lowest layer without toppling the lot.

Sensei is very impressed that the K-2 students are now beginning to “read” the hiragana colour words. How many can you read みどり あか あお ピンク オレンジ ちゃいろ きいろ?
A minibook of colours will be coming home with your child next week. This book will explain how to play an exciting game of Poke the Pirate and also encourage students to persist with reading .

LIBRARY WHISPERS

The library has been buzzing at lunch time, with students happily playing all of our new board games. The favourites so far are Charades and Bingo. Mrs Hewitt is enjoying playing the games also.

We’ve had a small art installation in the library, with these beautiful clay people that some of our students made. I love having art in the library and, luckily, Mrs Edwards loves giving me art to display!

If you were unable to attend this session but are interested in finding out more, please contact Carolyn Tumminello at the parish office or Margaret Ryan at the school office.
AXIOS

After missing last week, it was good to be back again. We checked out our little seedlings which are growing well. We decided to support the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoebox Appeal and we will be collecting some items to make up Christmas packages for children from an overseas country who would not otherwise receive any Christmas gift. Next week we are going to share about our special interests and hobbies. Looking forward to that one.
A reminder that all children in Years 4-6 are very welcome to attend. Parents just need to complete the registration form with permissions.

Baptisms

The Sacrament of Baptism is available to those requesting it. Please ring Jennifer at the Parish Office (66583544) or talk to Amber Biddle or Liz Watts at school if you have any questions. Alternatively, if you wish to register for Baptism, there is now the option of an online request form .
