FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I’ve spent a few days with the Coffs/ Clarence principal group in Melbourne this week. As well as exploring some ‘best practice’ approaches to learning and teaching, we were blessed to be exposed to the loving heart of Catholic education in Victoria. No favourites, but the beautiful message at Saint Jude’s Langwarrin- Use Your Kind Heart - resonated strongly with me.
Coincidentally, June is traditionally the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a widely practised and well-known Catholic devotion. What’s its purpose? To remind us of God’s boundless and passionate love for each and every one of us and, in turn, to share that love with others.
Great to see our children putting love into action this week as they raised funds for those suffering in PNG.
This week’s Walk Worthy of God Good Citizen Award went to Jayce Gineesh in Year 2. His teachers said that he is always respectful, honest and compassionate. Congratulations, Jayce.
Warm regards,
Liz

Reading night
The Family Reading Night, funded and organised by the Lismore Catholic Schools Parent Assembly, was a resounding success! After a delicious pizza dinner, parents, grandparents and children shared their favourite picture books, taking turns to read them to each other.
Year 1 and 2 Choir at The Link
Our Year 1 and 2 choir students attended the Link Cafe today to perform a number of songs for the residents at Marion Grove and Mater Christi. The students sang beautifully and had a fun game of Nursery Rhyme trivia with the audience. It has been wonderful to see how enthusiastic the students were to attend the event and how they upheld the values and beliefs of our school in their interactions with the residents. We look forward to taking the 3-6 choir to perform in 2 week's time. Thank you to all the teachers and staff for your support of this event.
Grandparents’ Day

LOVING LEARNING
Year 2 History
This term in Year 2, we have been delving into some local history. Students are enjoying researching a chosen site from the Coffs Harbour area. As a part of this learning, students have had to explore a range of sources and gather information. These sources have included photographs and newspaper clippings. Students have also created their own questions to ask locals in the hope of hearing first hand memories of these sites. Here are some of the interesting facts they have discovered:
FM - "Did you know that in the 1950s, timber was loaded on boats from the Jetty?"
CM - "Did you know that the Jetty was opened in 1892?"
LH - "Did you know there were cranes on the Jetty to lift the logs?"
PR - "Did you know that in the 1960s there was a banana farm behind the Big Banana?"
FROM THE MISSION DESK
Yesterday was the Feast of St Anthony of Padua. He was a Franciscan priest - a follower of St Francis.
Below is a beautiful Franciscan Peace Prayer
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
O God, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
Year 1 Class Mass
Year 1 attend Mass with their teachers and Fr Joy on Tuesday. Father Joy read the Gospel Matthew 10:7-13. In this scripture, Jesus tells his friends to go out and share the good news that God’s kingdom is near. He asks them to help people who are sick and in need.
During the homily, we were encouraged to to trust in God, be kind and spread peace. Our readers did an exceptional job and the students sang beautifully. Thank you to all of our family and friends who could attend.
Peer Groups
Today, students had a wonderful time reconnecting with their peer groups and creating silly spider drawings together. It was lovely to see so many happy smiling faces.
Coin Line for Papua New Guinea

SPORT NEWS
Diocesan Rugby Union Gala Day
Our team was gifted a dazzling day of sunshine for the Diocesan Rugby Union Gala Day on Wednesday. MHOC played multiple games across the day against teams from Port Macquarie to Lismore to everywhere in between!
Mr Murphy had this to say about the day:
On a beautiful day with perfect weather conditions, the Lismore Diocese 10-a-Side Rugby Union Gala Day took place at Coffs Coast Leisure Park on Wednesday, showcasing the spirit and skill of young rugby players from all over our Diocese. Among the participants were 14 of the best players from MHOC, who displayed exceptional sportsmanship and determination throughout the event.
Despite facing some very strong opposition, the MHOC team managed to secure victories in 2 out of their 4 games. This impressive performance highlighted their dedication and teamwork, earning them respect and admiration from their peers and spectators alike.
A special mention goes to Kaidan and Tia for their outstanding leadership on the day. They inspired their teammates and led by example on the field. Additionally, a special mention to Diezel for scoring the most points on the day for MHOC, showcasing his outstanding skill in a game he is only just learning!
Congratulations to all the students for their hard work and commitment. They made our school proud with their commendable effort and excellent display of rugby prowess!

LIBRARY WHISPERS
Scholastic Book Club orders are due on Monday 17th June. Remember, you can order online through the Scholastic website, or bring the filled in order sheet and correct money into the school office.
Year 4 loves doing the ‘Hot Seat’ during their library session…it’s when one of the students sits up in front of the class and talks about the book they’ve been reading. It’s a great way for the children to recommend books to each other as well as a good opportunity for me to hear about particular books that I may not have read. This week Will talked about the Mighty Mitch series of books he’s been reading which sparked Angadeep’s interest in them - glad I had a few to choose from!
OSHC
Week 6 has been a great week for everyone involved in the OSHC community. We have been experimenting with new activities and reintroducing some older activities such as egg and spoon races. Our arts and crafts are always popular and this week we included some roleplay setups as well. Our Vacation Care Program has now been released and bookings are open !! We have lots of new exciting excursions and incursions planned for these holidays and are planning many more fun activities. We hope to see you there !!

NEWS FROM OUR PARISH
Our confirmation preparation is well underway with the first week of our small group sessions beginning this week led by our Sacrament & Youth Co-ordinator Marja, Tori, Adelle, Kristy, Amber & Trish.
We celebrated the importance of’ ‘names’. How our parents named us when we were born & now as children of God, embarking on a deeper awareness of this relationship with the Holy Spirit, through Confirmation, we are able to choose our own Confirmation names & how special that is.
Each child got to share stories about their baptisms and we had a lot of fun!
Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is available to those requesting it. Please ring Jennifer at the Parish Office (66583544) or talk to Amber Biddle, Liz Watts or Margaret Ryan at school if you have any questions.
